Five years ago, Beryl came to the College to improve her maths skills.

Following the completion of her course, she then decided to work on her English and ICT skills too, and obtained various qualifications, including Level 1 and 2 certificates, a CLAIT computing qualification and GCSE’s.

With her new found confidence, Beryl went on to complete a Level 2 qualification in 'Supporting Adult Learning.'

This enables her to offer support to students in the same Skills for Life classes she started in herself
.

Beryl recently received recognition for her support work from Southend Association of Voluntary Services (SAVS) who awarded her a 'Volunteer Award' for the English & maths support she provides to students here at the College.

“I’m so happy to be putting something back and helping those who feel as nervous and disbelieving as I did just a short time ago!"
