Creative Students Publish Psychic Thriller
You’ll never get it published! That’s what everybody says….but ex-Southend Adult Community College students Alan Lodge and John Anthony have proved that getting your own book published can be done, and the proof lies in their very own psychic thriller ‘Vital Signs’.
Alan and John enrolled on a Creative Writing course in the Autumn of 2004, held at Southend Adult Community College’s Leigh Centre, run by tutor Sam Lierens.
The pair first met at Southend Adult Community College on the first day of their course. At the time they were both working on individual writing projects.
Alan Lodge has loved writing stories since a young age and was a regular visitor to his local library in South London. A product of the now defunct Peckham Manor Comprehensive School, he escaped at fourteen to start a working life on building sites in and around London. Much later, a change in his health created the opportunity to spend more time doing what he loved, writing.
John Anthony, another Londoner, but raised in Ilford and educated at a boy's Grammar School in Chigwell, followed a varied career in the commercial world. He now works as a spiritual medium and counsellor.
Whilst on their Creative Writing course at the College, John and Alan decided to pursue a joint writing venture and the embryo ‘Vital Signs’ was created.
Strongly encouraged by their tutor and fellow students at Southend Adult Community College, Alan and John’s book took shape, with fascinating characters and thrilling plots emerging. On completion, they then took the next steps towards getting it published and decided to take the less conventional ‘internet publishing’ route. They formed their own company – donkeytalebooks, and by accessing a United States-based publishers, 'Vital Signs' is now available to the general public.
The thrilling book takes you from the streets of south London via a sunbaked villa in Spain, to the cold criminal climate of Moscow and back again. It follows London based celebrity psychic Gerry Summers as he fights his personal demons trying to make sense of his remarkable gifts. He gets involved in the dubious dealings of a young city IT manager whose children become the victims of an international child trafficking cartel. The survival of both Gerry Summers and the children depend ultimately upon an unlikely alliance with south London hard man Bradley Roberts as the two men are pushed to their limits in a desperate attempt to rescue the innocent.
