Happy 1st Birthday to the Library Test Centre

The national test centre at Southend Central Library celebrates its 1st Birthday, following a successful pilot year

The test centre, which opened back in 2005, was set up by Southend Adult Community College and Southend Central Library.  The aim was to enable more people to take advantage of the fantastic opportunity to get FREE national qualifications in English and/or maths.   The national tests are an excellent way to update qualifications and can be really useful at work, for entrance to further training opportunities or to boost a CV.  The test centre also offers FREE specialist help for those who feel they need a little preparation before taking the test.

Over the passed year, a number of people have made use of the test facilities at the Library and the College.  A total of 697 awards have been achieved, with 497 of these at Level 1 or 2.  As the new centre at the Library moves into its 2nd year, the opening times will be adjusted slightly, to accommodate for those who want to visit the centre after work.

To mark the 1st Birthday occasion, a celebration ceremony will be held at the library on Tuesday 19th September at 7.30.  Individuals who have successfully completed a National test this year will be invited, and their certificates will be presented to them by Ali Hadawi – Principal at Southend Adult Community College, and Simon May, Library Services Manager at Southend Library.
