Freedom to Deliver Skills for Employment and Growth
A recent announcement by the Government means that fewer Adults will need to pay tuition fees. In the announcement, the Skills Funding Agency opened up eligibility for funding to learners on different kinds of benefits.
Until now, eligibility was restricted to some learners receiving Employment Support Allowance and those on Job Seeker’s Allowance. These new rules now mean that unemployed learners on an income-based state benefit may get their tuition fees fully funded on Government supported courses up to level 3.
- To be eligible for support learners must be:
- 19 or over
- Unemployed, but seeking employment
- Studying a qualification course that may lead to employment
Be in receipt of one of the following:
- JSA (Job Seekers Allowance)
- Council Tax Benefit
- Housing Benefit
- Income Support
- Employment Support Allowance
To claim this support, you will need to show evidence that you are claiming one of these benefits and sign a form confirming that you are unemployed but seeking employment. We will be checking any enrolments already made, and will contact you if you qualify for a refund under the new flexibilities. Some examples of funded courses include the following:
- GCSE (English, Maths, Psychology and Science)
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)
- AQA Counselling
- ITEC Indian Head Massage and Reflexology
- Level 2 Certificate in Principles of Business Administration
- Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration
- Level 2 Diploma in Health & Social Care
- Level 2/3 Certificate/Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools
If you would like to make an appointment to meet with an Education and Careers Adviser to discuss these new flexibilities or find out how you can take advantage of them, please call 01702 445710 or email info@southend-adult.ac.uk.
