I am delighted to welcome you to Southend Adult Community College’s website. As Principal, I am looking forward to the new year and meeting the thousands of Southend residents that take advantage of the wide range of classes available at the College.

The College offers a friendly, welcoming environment for all members of the community and provides excellent facilities in which to learn. In addition to the Southchurch and Leigh Centres, this year sees the opening of our new facilities at Belfairs High School. We also continue to provide excellent specialist learning programmes for young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities at the Westcliff Centre.

I hope you are inspired by the contents of this website to join one of our classes. The courses are designed to offer you both leisure and employment based learning opportunities. The programme includes a number of art, IT, fitness, languages and performing arts courses and you never know, you may discover a new subject you would like to develop further, in the next academic year!

The College has recently opened its new ‘BEST’ (Business Enterprise Skills Training) Centre and we are now looking to expand our work with local business to provide Apprenticeships and other work based training provision.

In these difficult economic times the College has done everything to keep fees as low as possible. Changes to benefit entitlements will also have an impact on charges for some students. We are very keen to ensure that financial hardship does not provide a barrier to people wishing to access the wealth of opportunities contained in the brochure. If you do find yourself in this situation please do contact the College so that we can discuss with you ways in which we can support you.

The College aims to provide an enjoyable and purposeful learning environment that enables students to relax and also pursue their career ambitions, we are proud of our position as the town’s specialist adult learning venue and hope you will come along and join a class this year.

I look forward to meeting you all.
