Jo, 36, has made her own cards for many years. It started as a hobby and more recently she has been taking commissions from those wanting personalised,
hand-made cards for that special occasion.
Jo currently teaches two card making courses at
5-week scrap-booking class at the end of February and an NCFE in Cardmaking in September.
As well as teaching, Jo is a student herself at
Her biggest craft project to date has been the design and creation of the wedding stationery for her own wedding which took place in September of 2005. She wanted ‘a subtle vintage yet modern feel’ to her wedding décor. She started by creating ‘mood boards’ and from these established a green, pink and cream colour scheme, focused around book and music script, incorporating tags and roses – modern with a classical twist. She then created a beautiful, co-ordinating set of invitations, place cards, table numbers, gift packages and a wedding book.
The reaction to her stationery was so exceptional that Jo decided to submit examples to the American craft magazine ‘Sommerset Studio’. As a keen subscriber, she had often considered sending her work to them but had never pursued this, but now is “so glad? she did.
“When I found out they were actually going to feature my work I was over the moon. To have such a reputable magazine recognise your work in that way is such a compliment. When I received my copy and saw that they’d actually used my work on the front cover as well I just couldn’t believe it!
Jo’s work was featured in Sommerset Studio’s annual edition ‘Sommerset Weddings’ and included a complete front cover shot and 2 double page spreads inside. The magazine attracts an international audience and features work by crafts men and women from around the world.
